Klein Art Day Field Trip

Like so many neighbors along Cypress Creek, the Cypress Creek Cultural District sustained damage from Hurricane Harvey. The Centrum and Cypress Creek Christian Church and Community Center, the Barbara Bush Library, and the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts received damages to varying degrees.  All are working hard to become operative as soon as possible. As a result, the Klein Art Day field trip program has been re-organized for the 2017-2018 school year but looks forward to returning to the regular format for 2018-2019.

This fall, Cypress Creek FACE will bring Houston Grand Opera's Opera to Go! company directly to Klein elementary schools. One school's 3rd grade classes will be bused to a neighboring school to see the performance of "Hansel and Gretel." All 31 elementary schools will have the opportunity to see this wonderful production.

In the spring, each elementary school will visit the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. The students will have the opportunity to sharpen their writing skills in preparation for the 3rd Grade STAAR Writing Test by writing an essay about an image or idea they see in the museum's exhibition. They will have an extended visit at the museum to allow time for the writing assignment.

In 2008, Cypress Creek FACE, the Barbara Bush Library, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts, and the Cypress Creek Community Center collaborated with Klein ISD to create the Klein Art Day field trip program for Klein’s third grade students. These four organizations created an interdisciplinary arts experience that includes the literary, performing, and visual arts.

Cypress Creek FACE is proud to be a partner presenting Klein Art Day - the first of its kind in our community. Two schools, bringing approximately 200 students, attend the field trip each day.

Art Day Schedule
Every student:
  • attends a musical theater performance by the Houston Grand Opera in The Centrum.
  • participates in a creative literary experience at the Barbara Bush Library.
  • views the current exhibition in a docent-led tour of the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts.
  • enjoys lunch at the Community Center before returning to their school.

The Barbara Bush Branch Library
The Barbara Bush Branch of the Harris County Public Library provides free library cards to all residents of Texas. With a card, members of the community can check out books, magazines, and audiovisual materials; utilize the state-of-the-art computer equipment, including a wireless network; and access e-books, e-audio, and dozens of databases from outside the library at all hours of the day. The library also offers many free story times, craft activities, and a wide variety of special programs and services to supplement and enrich lifelong learning.

The Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts
The Pearl is the most recent addition to the Cypress Creek Cultural District. The only art museum outside of the downtown Museum District, the museum opened in March 2008 with the mission to bring original works of art to Northwest Harris County. In a three-year partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Pearl will bring a series of exhibitions from the MFAH permanent collection, affiliated institutions, and private collections to our community. The Pearl offers diverse visual arts programming for all ages and knowledge levels.

The Cypress Creek Christian Community Center
The Cypress Creek Christian Community Center is a unique community-partnership model for meeting the educational, humanitarian, spiritual, and cultural needs of Northwest Houston. The Community Center includes The Centrum and other facilities for non-profit organizations and the entire community to meet, experience, and enjoy.
