Klein Art Days

kleinartdaysartDuring the 2009-2010 school year, the Barbara Bush Branch Library, Cypress Creek FACE, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts, and the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center will host 3rd Grade classes from the Klein Independent School District. These four organizations have worked together to create an interdisciplinary arts experience for community children, including the literary, performing, and visual arts.  The organizations will not only introduce the students to these community services and resources, but also demonstrate the commitment of Klein ISD and the organizations to arts education.

The basic structure of the Art Day is for all students to attend a performance at The Centrum as soon as the schools arrive in the morning.  Following the performance, the students are divided into three groups and rotate with volunteer guides through the Barbara Bush Branch Library for a tour of the Children’s Library, to the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts for a tour of the current exhibitions and to the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center to eat lunch.

This unique student experience was created through the partnership of Klein ISD and the participating organizations. Without the support and dedication of Klein ISD, the third grade students would not have been able to participate in this one-of-a-kind program.

Houston Grand Opera’s Opera to Go! production information:

How Nanita Learned to Make Flan
Composer: Enrique Gonzalez-Medina
Libretto: Campbell Geeslin
Nanita’s cobbler father works so hard that he has no time to smile, much less make Nanita a pair of new shoes for her First Communion. Nanita takes on the task herself, fashioning multicolored shoes out of leather scraps. Once on her feet, the shoes magically lead her to the desert home of a cruel ranchero, where she is pressed into service as a Cinderella-like house servant. When a special parrot arrives in the household, he teaches Nanita the secret to making great flan and also helps her find a way to rejoin her father.

A sneak peak of the production:

Cenicienta en España (Cinderella in Spain)
Composer: Mary Carol Warwick
Libretto: Kate Pogue
The glass slippers, the pumpkin, the evil stepsisters…they’re all here! This delightful version of Cinderella is a bilingual retelling of one of the most well known fairy tales around the world. Set in Spain, this comic version has an allergy-prone fairy godmother and the most unusual stepsisters you’ll ever hear.
