Venue
The Centrum, a 900 seat concert hall, is located in the heart of a thriving suburban area. The Centrum is the centering point for the 500,000+ population service area for cultural and civic events drawing from a 100-mile radius. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston hosts exhibitions through the facility, Museum of Science and History, Houston operates educational activities throughout the year, and the Houston Symphony Orchestra presents its annual New Year’s Eve, “A Night in Vienna” in the hall and will present a chamber series as well this season. HP/Compaq Computer Corporation offices are located four miles from the Center.
In addition, Cypress Creek Foundation for the Arts and Community Enrichment (FACE), presents numerous touring artists which have included Marvin Hamlisch, Tommy Tune, Bill Cosby, Bob Newhart, Nancy Wilson, Maynard Ferguson, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Navah Perlman, Burt Bacharach, Wynton Marsalis, John McDermott and a host of other classical and popular performing artists.
A major component of the presenting organization (Cypress Creek FACE) and that of The Centrum is its FOCUS ON EDUCATION project. Numerous children’s concerts are held each season. The choirs, bands, and orchestras of the three contiguous school districts, which provide the number “one” top fine arts programs in the state, each hold UIL competitions, and concerts throughout the year in this fine facility.
With a portion of ticket sales and the fund raising efforts of The Centrum Arts League, Cypress Creek FACE offers area college students scholarships for those pursuing a career in the Musical Arts field. Since the beginning of FACE, area youths have received over $20,000 in scholarships.
We, as presenters, are committed to modeling excellence through the arts for our very diverse student population. Over 50 school concerts and four University Inter-scholastic League competitions were held at The Centrum last year.
The Centrum is a part of the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center complex, a very unique facility, providing cultural enrichment and a myriad of social and educational services by the 120 non-profit organizations who use the facility annually. It is a splendid community partnership between the private and religious sector and that of the County. The Community Center is the heart of a civic complex which includes a The Centrum, the Church and Community Center, a 63 acre Park, the new 30,000 square foot Barbara Bush Library, and a very busy court house.
Kirkegäärd of Boulder Colorado is the acoustical firm who designed the superb acoustics in the hall. This firm also designed the acoustical plan for Tanglewood, the refurbishing of Jones Hall and Stude Concert Hall in Houston and are currently redesigning the acoustics of the Sydney Opera House in Australia among countless other premier facilities.
