What is your policy regarding children attending concerts?
Star-Lit Series and Promenade Series concerts are appropriate for children six years old and older. Every child, regardless of age, must have a ticket to enter the performance hall. Children of any age are invited to attend the Children’s Series performances. We do ask that if the child becomes disruptive that they be removed from the hall.
What should I wear?
Attending any concert is always a special occasion; therefore, most patrons enjoy dressing up a bit. Especially for the Star-Lit! Series or Promenade Series concerts, dressing up seems to be de rigueur. However, today’s standards for business formal dress or business casual dress are both acceptable and are evident at concerts at The Centrum. But remember, the musicians will be wearing their finest – tuxedos or suits for the men and gowns for the women. Patrons attending the Children’s Series performances have more latitude in dress. Feel free to come dressed in more casual wear. However, jeans, shorts, and t-shirts are discouraged.
Is it possible a concert can be cancelled?
All performances, artists, dates and times are subject to change. Tickets are not refundable or exchangeable, unless performance has been cancelled by FACE. Please check your tickets for performance time and date.
What is your policy regarding cell phones, cameras, etc.?
The use of cellular phones, cameras, audio/video equipment and pagers in the performance hall is prohibited.
Is smoking permitted in The Centrum?
The Centrum is a smoke-free environment however, there are smoking stations outside.
When do I clap during a classical concert?
Many works in classical music, such as a Beethoven symphony or Mozart piano concerto, have three or more movements or sections. A short pause usually falls in between each. It has become customary over time not to clap during these short pauses. To find out the number of movements (and corresponding number of pauses) in a piece, turn to the program page in your program book. You will find that the subdivision of each work into movements is usually indicated by tempo markings in Italian. After the last movement, you may clap as you wish.
What is CAL?
CAL stands for The Centrum Arts League. It is a volunteer group, with over 200 members, that raises funds by organizing and hosting entertaining and educational events. Over the last seven years, The Centrum Arts League’s donations to FACE have averaged 10% of the operating budget.
