Klein Art Days – Fall 2008

During October 2008, the Barbara Bush Branch Library, Cypress Creek FACE, the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts, and the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center hosted 3rd Grade classes from the Klein Independent School District. These four organizations have worked together to create an interdisciplinary arts experience for community children, including the literary, performing, and visual arts.  The field trip is comprised of a performance sponsored by Cypress Creek FACE in the Centrum, a hands-on museum tour at the Pearl Fincher Museum, a visit to the Barbara Bush Library, and a group art project in the Community Center.  The organizations not only introduced the students to these community services and resources, but also demonstrated the commitment of Klein ISD and the organizations to arts education.

The basic structure of the Art Day is for all students to attend a performance at The Centrum as soon as the schools arrive in the morning.  Following the performance, the students are divided into three groups and rotate with volunteer guides through the Cypress Creek Christian Community Center to participate in an artist-led mural project and eat lunch, to the Barbara Bush Branch Library for a tour of the Children’s Library, and to the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts for a tour of the current exhibitions, African Gold from the Glassell Collection and Metal Worked.

This unique student experience was created through the partnership of Klein ISD and the participating organizations. Without the support and dedication of Klein ISD, the third grade students would not have been able to participate in this one-of-a-kind program. Additional Art Days will take place Monday – Friday, March 23 – 27, 2009.
